Phony Proverbs: There’s No Smoke Without Fire

A popular proverb in today’s world is “there’s no smoke without fire”. People who agree with this adage and who readily use this phrase as justification for unfounded accusations, gathered recently. The group chanted this motto as they marched toward the property of a celebrity who was accused of sexual assault.

As the group approached the gates of the property, the star emerged in his car and whilst attempting to flee he left his handbrake on. As the smoke from the tyres filled the driveway, the protestors choked and gagged in agony. The crowd had no choice but to disperse as their favourite saying was proven wrong; apparently where there’s smoke, there’s not necessarily fire.

The celebrity was later cleared of any wrong-doing and he appeared outside the courthouse today to make a statement which included the pearl of wisdom “It is easier to dam a river than to stop the flow of gossip”. Suddenly, as he confidently uttered this sentence to the paparazzi, the nearby dam burst and the torrent carried him away.
