Francis Ford Coppola has been messing with his movies over the last decade or so, needlessly lengthening films such as Apocalypse Now and The Outsiders. Whether he’s ruined his own films by re-editing them or not (and he has) the fact that he doesn’t mind fiddling with his own creations surely means that my idea for a movie tie-in advertising campaign will go down pretty well.
My idea is an advert for Tropicana’s Sanguinello (a juice made from 100% Sicilian blood oranges) marketed to the public by using scenes from The Godfather. Don Vito Corleone chasing his grandchild around the garden with orange peal in his mouth… that’s a perfect way of selling orange juice!
The fact that Mr. Coppola has worked with various winemakers over the years, I don’t think that a collaboration with a fruit beverage company is out of the realms of possibility. The only problem I can foresee is that his surname “Coppola” sounds a lot like British fruit juice company “Copella”. If only they made juice made of Sicilian blood oranges. Ah well, never mind, it’ll have to be Tropicana. Either way, the book-referencing tagline “orange is a juice best served cold” could be used. Genius, if I do say so myself.
